Issues at Crookford Ford/Woods - PC4437 Hollie Marsh
Elkesley Parish Council
At present Police are receiving an influx of complaints regarding the off road vehicles driving through Crookford.
Unfortunately the river has now changed direction due to the damage caused by bikes and 4x4.
I understand that local residents and other visitors are refraining from attending the area due to disruption from the illegal vehicles.
I am working with the Forestry Commission to try and prevent this however they are extremely short on funding at present so they have no means to rectify any damage if there is a cost involved.
We are furiously trying to close the entrance (Plevins way). Ideally to have as a suitable sized gate for walkers with prams and wheelchair access. This will prevent any 4x4’s crossing the river bed and entering the woods. Again, another lengthy process with the rights of way department.
On behalf of Nottinghamshire Police and Forestry Commission we are aiming for the woods to be used be walkers, families, dog walkers and wildlife watchers – not by off road bikes causing distruction. Unfortunately there is just a lot of red tape to get through so we are just asking for you to bear with us.
In the interim, please can I request that you report any suspicious activity to 101 or via our online reporting tool: Report antisocial behaviour | Nottinghamshire Police
Or to info@forestryengland.uk
We are conducting extra patrols over the weekends and working with the relevant external agencies.
If you have any questions regarding this or other local matters, please don’t hesitate to contact me.
Many thanks,
Hollie
