I am writing to provide an update on our progress as we resurface the A1 between its junction with the A57/A614 at Apleyhead and the A17/A46 at Newark. We continue to work Monday to Friday, between 8pm and 6am.

The scheme is progressing well despite some weather-related delays. While we have lost some shifts due to inclement weather conditions, we have allocated additional resources to mitigate the impact on our programme. We continue in Phase 1 with a full closure of the A1 southbound from Apleyhead to Newark. The fully signposted diversion route uses the A616 and A614.

On the evening of Wednesday 26 February we will move to Phase 2. We continue on the southbound carriageway with a full closure from Markham Moor to Newark. The diversion route will use the A57 and A46.

For an overview of this scheme with links to the diversion routes, please visit the National Highways website below and click on the A1 Apleyhead to Newark Resurfacing scheme.

We are resurfacing the A1 between its junction with the A57/A614 at Apleyhead and the A17/A46 at Newark to give you a safer, smoother journey. I am writing to let you know that after a delayed start due to flooding, work will go ahead tonight as planned and dates for each phase may need to be updated as a result.

Work was initially carried out under lane or slip road closures but from this evening we will need full carriageway closures. To minimise disruption these will take place overnight from 8pm to 6am on Mondays to Fridays, in one direction at a time in the following phases:

Phase 1 - 13 January to 10 February – A1 southbound closure from Apleyhead to Newark

Phase 2 - 11 February to 12 March – A1 southbound closure form Markham Moor to Newark.

Phase 3 - 13 March to 28 March – A1 northbound closure from Newark to Markham Moor.

Phase 4 - 6 May to 11 July – A1 northbound closure from Newark to Apleyhead.
